Getting Started

Minecraft Whitelist, Ops, and Online-Mode

Lock down a private SMP: whitelist, op levels, and online-mode pitfalls that lock everyone out.

Whitelist

white-list=true
enforce-whitelist=true

Console:

whitelist add PlayerName
whitelist list
whitelist on

Ops

op PlayerName
deop PlayerName

Op levels (4 is full) live in ops.json. Prefer permission plugins for large communities instead of blanket op.

online-mode

online-mode=true

Keep true unless you knowingly run an offline network. Switching modes changes UUIDs and can orphan inventories.

Lockout recovery

If you lock yourself out, use the Pterodactyl console (it bypasses in-game auth) to whitelist add or op your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

online-mode=false risks?

Allows cracked/offline UUIDs and breaks many auth assumptions. Keep true for public Java SMPs.

How do I op myself?

From Pterodactyl console: op YourName — or edit ops.json carefully.

Whitelist blocks everyone?

Whitelist yourself first, then friends. Disable temporarily only while fixing.

Need help?

If you are stuck after following this guide, open a ticket from the Chapter22 client area with the exact error, the port or DNS change you made, and whether the service listens locally (ss / Resource Monitor) but fails externally.

Build the server. Grow the community. Start your next chapter.

Chapter22 Minecraft hosting

Deploy a managed Minecraft server.

Deploy on Chapter22 Minecraft hosting when you want a managed Pterodactyl panel instead of babysitting a full VPS.
